How to Attach a Wood Valance to your Blinds when you Lose the Plastic Clips

When we moved into our everything oak-trimmed home, I quickly moved to start painting all of that trim white. I popped off the blinds and wood valances in our living room windows and started painting away! After several coats of paint and many hours later, I was excited to put my windows back together.

Up went the blinds – easy peasy. But then, I went to attach the the lovely wood valances to cover up the top of metal blinds and discovered that the pesky little plastic clips used to hold the valances in place had broke. I’m pretty sure I vacuumed right over them and broke those little puppies myself :(.

I was naive enough to think I could find a quick replacement. But, after several stores and looking online, I couldn’t find the right size. And, what I did find were way too expensive for tiny little plastic things. No thanks!

I let several weeks pass by with my naked little blinds not having their valances to cover them up, not knowing what to do. But then, finally, it dawned on me that the front of the blinds are magnetic. So, voila, a new solution became available!

I simply had to glue a bunch of magnets to the back of the wood valances and then stick them to the front of the magnetic blinds. Make sure that your magnets are thick enough to stick out past any raised portions. They are strong and hold well and look cleaner than the plastic clips that are typically used for attaching the wood valances.

So, if you are like me, and somehow break or lose those pesky plastic clips, buy magnets instead! It’s a simple, inexpensive solution to rehang your valance to cover your blinds. Good luck with your window project!
